American Foxhound

The laid back foxhound is one of the mellowest dogs around. They get on well with children, other dogs and smaller animals, and can be extremely shy around strangers. They are sweet, loving, and make good companions. The one area in which you need to be careful with a foxhound is being certain that you give them proper obedience training. They are born with the instinct to follow a scent, and when an untrained foxhound begins tracking, it can be nearly impossible to get them to stop. But once it is taught to be less wilful, the american foxhound is an optimal breed for a family.
