American Leopard Hound

Overview

Also known as the "Catahoula Cur", American Leopard Hounds are striking dogs that will keep you on their toes with their intelligence and energy. Leopard hounds are not overly aggressive, but they are certainly confident. They were originally bred to hunt, and they still have the focus and seriousness about their jobs that made them so capable in those roles. Their talents also translate well into the home, as Catahoulas tend to be protective and affectionate of their families. They can be single-minded and stubborn, and make it very clear what they want everyone to be doing. The American Leopard Hound is a social breed, so do not purchase one if you intend to keep them isolated for long periods of time. The confident, capable Catahoula is not right for everybody. But for those that prefer an accomplished, strong-willed companion, the American Leopard Hound is not just a good choice - it's perfect.
